Dental Hygiene, Care and Prevention

The Wrigley Oral Healthcare Program (WOHP) and the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) have named October the National Dental Hygiene month for the seventh year in a row. This year, we’d like to give all our patients the best of wishes and offer you some quick and practical tips to keep those pearly whites shining.

When it comes to taking care of your teeth, it’s all about prevention and long-term care. A good dental hygiene routine should first of all consist of a few basic steps for oral and general health:

• Brush for two minutes twice each day to keep gingivitis, caries and other dental problems at bay.
• Remember to use proper flossing technique to remove unwanted food particles and avoid tooth decay.
• Remove bacteria and biofilm properly with an antimicrobial mouth rinse.
• Chew sugar-free chewing gum after meals, and you will complete your healthy oral hygiene routine to keep your pH at an optimal level.

Don’t forget to follow a proper, healthy diet, free of high sugar content. Stay away from sugar, pastries and soft drinks as much as possible and replace them with delicious healthy alternatives, such as whole grains, fruit, vegetables, lean meat and low-fat dairy products.
