Wisdom teeth that become impacted needs to be surgically removed to prevent damage to gums, jaw, and other teeth.  Oral surgery can also help eliminate snoring.  This consists of using laser techniques that remove excess tissue from the palate to help stop snoring.

Those that suffer with oral or facial cancerous growth can also benefit from oral surgery, too.  The infected tissue can be removed to reduce risk of further problems.
